Acrylic Realism in Wildlife

Using Washes and Glazes

About the Workshop

This workshop is open to beginner and intermediate artists in acrylic.

This is a painting workshop; Acrylic will be used for the demonstrations because of the drying time. Please bring a work in progress if you paint. Students can bring their own reference material but it must be ready to be transferred to the board.

This package contains a tentative schedule and supply list for the workshop.

Our emphasis during the workshop will be on creating depth in your paintings by using washes and glazes. We will discuss 8 glazing tips. We will also discuss the basic fundamentals of painting including color value, edges, composition, the benefits and drawbacks of using photos and more. We will work primarily with wildlife but the techniques can be used for any subject.  I will work with you individually wherever you are in skill level or whatever your goals. We will have private as well as group critiques (optional) to maximize the benefit of each other’s experience.  Demonstrations will be done in acrylic.

Landscape Workshop

En Plein Air

About the Workshop

Our emphasis during the workshop will be on the experience of painting en plein air,   we will explore composition concepts, how to “build” a painting, achieving clean glowing colour, atmospheric perspective, and much more. I will work with you individually wherever you are in skill level or whatever your goals. We will have private as well as group critiques (optional) to maximize the benefit of each other’s experience.  Demonstrations will be done in acrylic.

During the day you will find a wealth of subjects to paint. As the light moves across the landscape it gives the painter an endless stream of possibilities for discovery.  This locale was selected for our workshop because of its variety in the landscape and beautiful setting of pond, rocks, boats, etc.

I am looking forward to journeying and working with you as we paint en plein air

Creating better Paintings

 About the Workshop

Our emphasis during the workshop will be on creating better paintings by understanding the Golden Mean, the rule of thirds, open and closed composition. In colour value we will look at how light affects a painting, using a colour wheel we will choose colour schemes depending on the dominant, sub dominant,  adjacent and accent colours, and in perspective we will focus on linear and atmospheric perspective.  I will work with you individually wherever you are in skill level or whatever your goals. We will have private as well as group critiques (optional) to maximize the benefit of each other’s experience.  Demonstrations will be done in acrylic.

I am looking forward to journeying and working with you as we strive to make our painting more professional.
